The eye that directs a needle in the delicate meshes of embroidery will equally well bisect a star with the spider web of the micrometer. –Maria Mitchell
Dear Toledo Branch AAUW Members,
Recently I was reminded by woman in her 90’s of how much better life is today for women than when she was a young woman. AAUW members can be proud of AAUW’s role in advancing education and equity for women. We REAP the benefits of AAUW’s RESEARCH, EDUCATION, ADVOCACY, AND PHILANTHROPY.
Nationally, AAUW awards $4 million annually for Educational Fellowships and Grants. In reviewing our local educational endeavors, Toledo Branch provides annual funding for: Lourdes Science Campers, Be Wise Math & Science Campers, four AAUW Fellowships and Grants, and Wemmer Scholarships for UT women students.
A new educational effort is being investigated. Our fundraising committee is working on developing a new scholarship to honor past branch president and AAUW/Ohio president, Marge Lee. Marge has expressed the desire to award the scholarship to students studying in areas of science, technology, engineering and math—STEM. Fundraising committee efforts will be directed toward funding this new scholarship of AAUW Toledo Branch. Watch for more details on the Marge Lee STEM Scholarship!
Please remember to support our November 6 theatre party which funds our science/math campers. Celebrate AAUW’s 130th birthday during November—National AAUW Month!– at “Cocktails and Convos” on Mon. the 28th. And attend the December 10 Holiday meeting where you will meet our current Wemmer Scholarship recipients.
Yours in AAUW,
Carol Leupp, President
