Dear Toledo Branch Members:
Welcome to 2013! What a year it is shaping up to be: so many wonderful happenings in our branch. Did you see Melissa Jeter and Jackie Bartels on WTOL? (See “Blossoms…”) AAUW Toledo members are out there promoting our mission and telling the world. This along with coordinating with the Toledo Public Library and other groups is a big step towards building our membership. There is more to come this spring.
February 26 on WGTE, be sure to watch MAKERS, Women Who Make America. The film will feature the stories of those who led the fight, those who opposed it, and the unintentional trailblazers—famous and unknown—who carried change to every corner of society. A follow-up program is being prepared for early May with the Eberly Center and WGTE. Thanks to Deb DiGennaro for coordinating this event.
Save March 30 for the first WOW Symposium: “Women of the World” will be sure to WOW you. The day long program to be held at the Scott Park Campus will feature a keynote by Margaret Wong, the current co-chair of the Immigration Law Committee for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and chair of the Cleveland Bar Association’s Immigration Law Section. Nine organizing partners include the following: UT’s Eberly Center for Women, the U.T. Women’s & Gender Studies Dept., YWCA, Nami, Centro de la Mujer, Nirvana Now, NOW Toledo, People Called Women Bookstore, and of course AAUW/Toledo. Watch www.wowtoledo.org for more info.
I encourage you to share our branch news and to bring potential new members with you to just one program this spring. See you soon. Yours in AAUW, Michelle Radtkin
