President’s Letter

“What is AAUW and what do you do?” How many times have you been asked by others, some potential members, curious about AAUW? I was asked recently while taping a radio show to promote the Women of the World Conference on March 30. What would your answer be? We raise money for scholarships for Wemmer and for girls to attend science camp. While this may be true, it isn’t very enticing. How can our answers be more inviting and encouraging? Why not tell the person why you joined AAUW, what issues you are passionate about, and how AAUW has worked for over 130 years on equity. I talked about closing the gender pay gap, promoting STEM programs for girls, and stopping violence against women. I like the statement from AAUW.org: AAUW is the nation’s leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls. Take a look at AAUW website’s new “About Us” page for more. And think about the women you know who might enjoy one of our upcoming programs. Plan to attend, and bring her with you!

Yours in AAUW,

Michelle Radtkin
P.S. Did you watch MAKERS: Women Who Make America on WGTE TV? No fewer than four
of the MAKERS are former AAUW fellows! A follow-up is planned for Apr. 30 at WGTE.
More information soon. Until then, visit http://www.Makers.com to watch clips from the
documentary.
