People Called Women (PCW) Book Store Announces “Steinem’s Sisters”

In honor of Gloria Steinem’s 80th birthday on March 25, PCW, in cooperation with other women-serving organizations, is launching “Steinem’s Sisters,” a lending library and archive out of PCW (Ohio’s only feminist bookstore) that will lend and house important books, from feminist classics to brand new feminist writings. Steinem’s Sisters will focus on books that deal with reproductive rights, violence against women issues, multicultural issues and rights, LGBT rights, non-sexist children’s books, disability rights, economic justice issues, academic books used in local women’s studies programs, and
of course all of Gloria’s titles.
PCW will begin by filling two racks purchased at the time of PCW’s opening 20 years ago from the closing of Lion’s store. The racks were used by them—and here’s where the poetry comes in—as panty hose displays! PCW has used the racks as feminist magazine and children’s books displays throughout the years. They will now fill them with kick-off titles for Steinem’s Sisters.
Here’s how AAUW members can help:

1) Donate used books in good condition that fit the criteria for the library.

2) Make a financial pledge to help PCW purchase new titles and rent additional space. Checks (tax deductible; note “Steinem’s Sisters” in the memo) can be sent to “Toledo NOW” c/o PCW, 6060 Renaissance Pl., Ste. F, Toledo, OH 43623

3)Volunteer to help catalogue the books and research new titles

4)Attend on-going meetings to work toward the goal of a non-profit community center that will house the library/archive and also be a center for feminist education and activism. Questions?
